ART ADVENTURE IN CLAY

in a small mountain village...

THE VILLAGE OF EL TUITO, ONE HOUR SOUTH OF PUERTO VALLARTA, IS A TOWN REMINISCENT OF THE WILD WEST - WHERE HORSES ARE COMMON TRANSPORTATION, CHEESE IS MADE AND SOLD FROM LOCAL KITCHENS & SPANISH IS ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY SPOKEN... A MAGICAL PLACE, TRULY LOST IN TIME.

Main Plaza - El Tuito

PATRICIA WILL TEAM with master clay artist, Don Luis Solorio, who learned his trade from his great uncle on the shores of Lake Chapala. You will learn to locate and recognize clay at it's source and prepare it for studio use. you will spend your days working and playing in clay at your own levels, applying creativity to the challenges of very few tools or modern conveniences... as Luis has done for decades.

WE BREAK for lunch, most often, under the shady trees of the main plaza. You may have time to dip in the hotel pool, wander the cobbled streets, sketch / journal or simply siesta before returning to work in the studio.

WHILE YOUR CLAY WORKS ARE DRYING... we will head out to boca de Tomatlan and from there, by boat, to the isolated village of Yelapa. We will also work on completeing our ART JOURNALS.

LATER, we will fire our work in wood-burning kilns. We may also have the opportunity to try some organic fired finishesdecide among various options of firings and finishes, do some pit firing, smoking or raku.

Underwater experience with turtles!

SPEND YOUR DAYS... in totally unique surroundings, working & playing in clay. Take inspiration from the environment & practice new ways of forming ideas & art. We will also be mixing raw clay material to make our own "masa"... This will be a time to apply creativity to the challenges of very few tools or modern conveniences.

WE BREAK for lunch daily at one of the local beachfront restaurants. You may have time to dip in the ocean, take a surfing lesson, sketch / journal or simply siesta before returning to work in the studio.

WHILE YOUR CLAY WORKS ARE DRYING... we will head out to Islas, Las Mariettas for a snorkelling or whale watching excursion. We will also work on completeing our ART JOURNALS.

LATER, we will decide among various options of firings and finishes... including non-fired finishes, pit firing, smoking or raku.

MONDAY, 9AM - We head out to Punta Mita and Las Mariettas Islands for our SNORKELING ADVENTURE you may want to use this trip as inspiration for the next few days art work in the studio...

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY - 9AM -2PM = SPEND YOUR DAYS... right in the middle of the Arts & Gallery Disctric working in the YOUR CREATIVE AWAKENING studio in downtown Puerto Vallarta... 3 blocks from the famous Malecon waterfront , walking distance from all that Puerto Vallarta has to offer. Take inspiration from the environment, practice your Spanish language skills, as well as new ways of forming ideas & art. (WEDNESDAY we will break early at 1PM ). You will then have your afternoons to visit local galleries, markets and shops, go to the beach, sketch / journal, sight-see or simply relax.

WEDNESDAY EVENING the YOUR CREATIVE AWAKENING studio as well as ALL of the downtown galleries will be open for the WEEKLY GALLERY WALK- 6 - 10PM.

THURSDAY we finish our projects mid-day and head out for a final group lunch.

San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico - Join Pat in the mountains of Chiapas, Mexico. We will base our trip in the enchanting and artful town of San Cristobal de las Casas at a refreshing 6,800 ft. San Cristobal is situated off the beaten track, but artists and travelers from all over the world have been finding their way here for years. Chiapas is known for its cool climate, beautiful mountainous scenery, colorful indigenous culture and amber. Many artists and artisans have fallen in love with its special "vibe" and made it their home. The narrow and cobbled streets of San Cristobal are replete with a surprising number of sophisticated galleries, hand-made jewelry shops, boutiques and coffee houses. Balanced on the other hand is a craft’s market and an open-air farmer's market offering ritualistic items from the interesting to the bazaar.

In the early 90's the peaceful town of San Cristobal found itself in the middle of a battle between the government and the indigenous farmers over civil and property rights. Today, it is once again, the peaceful town of lore. I first visited this mountain top paradise in 1984 as a backpacker and it never left my heart or memory... In 2006, during a trip to nearby Antigua, Guatemala, I couldn't resist the temptation to attempt to re-visit this magical place again... I serendipitously arrived during the Virgin of Guadalupe days... It was an amazing experience and one of my all-time favorite travel memories! Contact Pat for price, dates and details.
